Business Objects XI (BOXI) is the
University's web-based reporting tool enabling access to
management information for a wide range of systems. BOXI is
accessed via MyEd (within the Admin and Teaching tabs)
and delivers data via universes and reports.

The following universes – and associated
reports - are available within the Student, Admissions and
Curricula portfolio:
- EUCLID Schools’ Student Management Universe (ESSMU) – student and course data; for use by Colleges and Schools
- EUCLID Admissions – admissions reports for use by Colleges and Schools
- EUCLID Fees Admissions – used by Registry
- EUCLID Planning Student Management – used by Planning
- EUCLID Registry Student Management – used by Registry
- EUCLID HESA-SFC-Teaching Load - used by Planning and College
- Postgraduate Progression Management Database (PPMD) - used by Colleges
- Student Counselling Service - used by Student Counselling Service staff
- Student Management Information DataMart (STUDMI) - Daily Snapshot – aggregate student data.
- Student Management Information DataMart (STUDMI) - Monthly Snapshot – aggregate student data.
- UCAS/GTTR Admissions Management Information DataMart (ADMISMI) – aggregate admissions data
BOXI FAQs
How do I get access to BOXI?
- Apply for access in the same way you would apply for access to the EUCLID system. Forms for requesting access can be found on the Staff Accounts page.
- Once access is granted you should open a web browser and login to MyEd at www.myed.ed.ac.uk
- Go to your Teaching tab and find the Business Objects Reporting channel.
- Click on the Launch BOXI button. BOXI will open in a new window or tab.
If you don't have the Teaching tab, you can add the 'Business Objects Reporting' channel to an existing tab using the customise link to the top right of your MyED portal (Add Channel, Select 'People and Personal' Category from the drop down list, and 'Business Objects Reporting' from the Channel list.)
I've logged into BOXI, where are the standard reports?
- In the left hand navigation area, click on the plus symbol beside Public Folders to open it. You should see a number of sub-folders.
- Open the Student, Admissions & Curricula folder.
- Open the SACS Developed and Maintained folder.
- Open the EUCLID School Student Management folder.
- Click on either the Course Reports or Student Reports folders. The reports available within the folders will appear in the workspace area.
I've created a report, how do I share it?
- 1. In the navigation are on the left hand side, open your Favourites folder.
- 2. Click the box next to the report you want to send to check it.
- 3. Click Send > To BusinessObjects Inbox. The Send dialog will appear.
- 4. Click to uncheck the box beside Use the Job Server’s defaults.
- 5. Type the username of the person you want to send the report to into the Look For: box and click Search.
- 6. Select the username you want from the results displayed. You can search again and select more users if you need to.
- 7. Ensure Copy is selected under the Send as option.
- 8. Click Submit. The report will appear in the other users’ Inbox folder.
Which Browsers can I use to access to BOXI?
- PC users are advised to use either Internet Explorer 6 or 7, or Mozilla Firefox v.3 or later.
- Mac users are advised to use Mozilla Firefox v.3 or later. BOXI (as a third party) does not support Safari.
- Users are advised that if they have Java v.1.6_19 or later installed, when
asked if they want to "Block potentially unsafe components from being run? (recommended)" (link to screenshot), they should select "No" to avoid the data output being shaded out such that it cannot be read.
Hints and Tips
- When writing and naming reports it's best to avoid the following characters - \ (back slash), / (forward slash), : (colon), * (asterisk), ? (question mark), < (less than), > (greater than), |(vertical bar)
